Teasley Elementary School Counseling Mission Statement
The mission of Teasley Elementary School’s Comprehensive School Counseling Program is to provide a developmental counseling program that addresses the academic, career, and personal/social needs of all students.
School counselors, in partnership with other educators, parents, and the community, assist in overcoming barriers that impede learning.
Our goal is to provide a program in a challenging, safe, and nurturing environment that fosters a desire in our students to become lifelong learners.
There are six main components of Teasley's Counseling Program:
1. Large group counseling: We visit our grade-level classrooms twice a month to teach a guidance lesson based on one of three domains designated by Cobb County: Academic, Career, or Social/Emotional. Specific topics vary by grade level and might include study skills, organization, friendship skills, consequences of behavior, bullying, conflict resolution, career exploration, and the appropriate communication of feelings.
2. Small group counseling: Students have the opportunity to participate in small groups focused on a topic such as Study Skills, Social Skills (Shyness, Anger Management, Confidence Building), Grief/Loss, Family Change, and Deployment.
3. Individual counseling: Our doors are always open to our students. There are a few ways children can meet with us individually: at their own request, at the teacher's request, or at the request of a family member.
4. Parent consultation: Success for every child depends on good communication between the school and the home. We are open to speaking with families on the phone or in person. Please contact us to set up an appointment to come in!
5. Teacher consultation: Communication among school personnel is essential for children's academic, social, and emotional success at school. We constantly collaborate with teachers, staff members, and administrators to find ways to help every Teasley student.
6. Special Programs: We are the coordinators for various programs at Teasley, including the following: Response to Intervention (RTI), Thanksgiving Food Drive, Holiday Angel Tree, Career Day (Novemeber 2010), and Student Council. We also assist with the faculty-student mentoring program, T.E.A.M. Me.
