Hello Teasley community! We are your school counselors, Kate Strother and LaToyi Wright. Ms. Strother is the counselor for grades 1, 2, 4, and 5, and this is her third year at Teasley. Mrs. Wright is the counselor for Kindergarten and Grade 3, and this is her second year at Teasley. We are so excited to collaborate with you and your children again this year!
There are six main components of Teasley's Counseling Program:
1. Classroom guidance: We visit our grade-level classrooms twice a month to teach a guidance lesson based on one of three domains designated by Cobb County: Academic, Career, or Social/Emotional. Specific topics vary by grade level and might include study skills, organization, friendship skills, consequences of behavior, bullying, conflict resolution, career exploration, and the appropriate communication of feelings.
2. Small group classes: Students have the opportunity to participate in small groups focused on a topic such as Study Skills, Social Skills (Shyness, Anger Management, Confidence Building), Grief/Loss, Family Change, and Deployment.
3. Individual counseling: Our doors are always open to our students. There are a few ways children can meet with us individually: at their own request, at the teacher's request, or at the request of a family member.
4. Parent consultation: Success for every child depends on good communication between the school and the home. We are open to speaking with families on the phone or in person. Please contact us to set up an appointment to come in! (770-437-5945 or e-mail Ms. Strother or e-mail Mrs. Wright)
5. Teacher consultation: Communication among school personnel is essential for children's academic, social, and emotional success at school. We constantly collaborate with teachers, staff members, and administrators to find ways to help every Teasley student.
6. Special Programs: We are the coordinators for various programs at Teasley, including the following: Response to Intervention (RTI), Thanksgiving Food Drive (Nov. 3-18 food collection), Holiday Angel Tree, Career Day (March 9, 2009), and Student Council. We also assist with the mentoring program, T.E.A.M. Me.
