We will not be going outside to recess on days where the temperature does not get out of the 30's. We try to go out if the temperature is in the 40's, though sometimes the wind blows so hard we will simply run a lap or two around the field and come back inside. We usually play inside games when we do not have our playtime outside.
Sometimes parents request that their child out go outside for recess. This request is often very hard to honor because all the first grade teachers are outside during the same time period and our neighbors, the 4th grades, are in the cafe. The result is it may be very difficult to find supervision for a child and we can't allow children to be left in the classroom alone. If your child is too sick for recess, that should indicate that he/she is too sick to come to school.
Please make certain that your child comes to school dressed warmly on these cold days. Even if he/she does not want to bring that heavy coat, please insist on your child wearing it to school. Also, please write your student's name inside all jackets, sweaters, coats, hats, mittens, scarves, etc. If items, go missing from school the lost and found at the the end of the cafeteria hallway is the place to search for them. Lastly, please make certain that your daughters are wearing socks. Ballerina slippers or flats without socks leave their little feet freezing.
In the event of snow, please check your local T.V. news, radio, or Cobb County School District website to see if school has been canceled. Many times surrounding areas will have called off school, but we still have to come. Just make certain that you look for Cobb County Schools rather than Atlanta City or Marietta City school as they are different school systems.
Each of you filled out an inclement weather form as part of your registration packet, probably back in August. In the event that snow starts to fall during the school day and school is dismissed early, I will follow the plan you indicated for your child on that form. WE DO NOT ACCEPT CHANGES OF TRANSPORTATION VIA EMAIL. This policy is in place to keep your child safe.
It has been a cold January thus far and even the teachers might enjoy a snow day in the coming weeks!
