Math
This week we will work on adding and subtracting two 3-digit numbers within 1000, with and without regrouping. I will most likely send home at least one additional equation for the children to do for homework each day and bring back so we can go over it together.
Reading
We will learn to compare and contrast two version of the same story. We will use familiar fairytales to work on this standard. The children will identify how the two stories are alike and how they are different.
Writing
This quarter writing focus is on Opinion Writing. Last week, the children started writing about their opinions of standard attire. They are learning how to state an opinion, give reasons for their opinion, and provide examples that support their reasons. This should be interesting!
Social Studies
We will continue learning about the life's work and contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The children are very interested in learning as much as possible, and many expressed an interest in visiting his childhood home in downtown Atlanta. I would love to take them there on a field trip, but it is very difficult to get in for a visit as a field trip. If you have time one weekend, I encourage you to go explore his childhood home, the King Center, and Ebenezer Baptist Church. This part of our history seems surreal to many of our children.
